What did you do on my wedding anniversary?

We were married on Feb 5th 1994 but don't usually make a fuss about overly celebrating it. I have given Mr Chaos a card on the 4th before (because the 4th, the 5th and 14th get muddled in my brain) and he has looked at me blankly. What a pair of ditsies. This year I had it in my mind that it was Monday so it came as a bit of a suprise when he suggested a chinese last night because it was our anniversary, it had clearly just dawned on him. I certainly didn't argue.
I was glad I was prepared with a card and a little something sweet and hadn't left that untill today.

Unsuprisingly I had spent the afternoon quilting and quilting untill this was done. It's not perfect but I know where to improve. I hope Holly likes it.

I didn't expect to be posting so soon with another finish but there you are.

Till next time

Two finished in January

Two, yes 2 finished!
This is my scrappy bargello for Flutterwheels. I whapped a honking great vermichelli all over with red Aurifill thread as an exercise in scale. The quilt didn't really need anything more complex. This was made mostly from Linus fabrics and a few group swaps with some of my own leftovers so quite a mix. Mr Chaos quite likes it, I had to make it clear that this was not a keeper. I am glad to have done it and finished it in plenty of time as I had set myself a challenge to complete more charity quilts this year. I am reluctant to say one a month but lets see.
This quilt is for Holly to take to Kenya later this year. I did CC's in the corners and fiddled about towards the center which is where my lack of experience really shows. I did piano keys in the border. Hopefully a child in Africa will like it.
Next up on the frame is another quilt for Holly where I will be playing with a panto again. Haven't done that for a while.
Till next time

Working on, on wednesday

I have completed the quilt top I started sewing up yesterday. It is going to be a quilt for a soldier and is made from only 3 shirts. I had to be really careful how I cut them but managed it with only one long skinny piece that needed joining. I have 3 pockets left which I will include in the pieced backing.

I am happy because I make a contribution to the cause, Big Tick, I had set myself a challenge of making a Heros quilt so another Tick, and I get to keep the buttons, Tick.

Stupid me! I have just realised that if I put blocks of shirt pockets into a pieced backing and then quilt it I am going to render the pockets useless cos they will be stitched up. What a Muppet, sigh, back to the drawing board.

Did I tell you I love buttons? Look at this blog of loveliness http://bonkersaboutbuttons1.blogspot.com/ I spent hours looking at lovely images just immersed in love of buttons.

Make yourself a cuppa and enjoy.

Till next time

Don't look! you too may be smitten and will have to follow a path to your fabrics

Or worse still have to visit your LQS.
Blog browsing the other day and I saw this beauty, here http://sewitupbaby.blogspot.com/ a really lovely blog with lots of colourful inspiration.

So I followed Carla's link to a tutorial here http://www.modabakeshop.com/2011/09/fancy-folded-star-pot-holder.html
I found my little collection of Oakshot fabrics, I pressed, I cut, I pressed again, I measured and layered, I pinned, I marked, I positioned, I sewed, I folded and I turned this muddle....

Into this .......
I love it, but now have no idea what to do with it. I shall keep it and admire it and lovingly stroke it for now before deciding its fate.

Happy sewing

All hearts quilt

It's done, bound and delivered and raffle tickets will be available at Blooms garden center this weekend. Interesting to work with stretch fabric in places and a lot of embelishment, there were lessons learnt too about over quilting or perhaps over tension.
One more quilt to quilt, loaded and SID done already, then I think I need to get serious about christmas shopping Bleugh :-(

Happy quilting

A charity quilt, a baby quilt and a quilt for Doreen

I put spiky flowers all over this quilt which is going to Africa.

I have completed a brushed cotton quilt (which looks a bit odd in this light) for the baby of my dental nurse who was one of my students many years ago.

This is what Doreen gave me last month, it is a UFO from her stash.

I am not sure why she did not fall in love with this and complete it and I think there must be more fabric somewhere but I suspect it may be unfinnished because it is a bit busy. I thought it needed some consistancy in the sashing and stars. I think this picture is a bit dark but the stars stand out nicely. I do hope she likes what I have done for her.

Till next time
